Welcome to aquaSplainer!

Passion. Inspiration. Ideas.

aquaSplainer is here to share my enthusiasm for tropical aquariums, and the thrill of creating beautiful underwater environments. Little ecosystems that – once set up – look after themselves… with a little help from folks like you and me.

Because we can’t help tinkering.

Accessible. Affordable. Achievable.

I’ve been doing this for a long time and I know how daunting it is when you look online and see these huge, stunning aquariums full of exotic tropical fish and plants. I know how it feels to think, “I could never do that.”

But an amazing tank is within your gasp. If I can do it, so can you.

When I’m setting up a tank, I try to keep everything as simple as possible. I try not to spend loads of money. I try to think about the long term prospects of everything that goes into a tank. The aim is always to create something easy to maintain, easy to enjoy and (hopefully) easy to afford.

Low-tech, freshwater, as true to nature as possible.

Patient and practical.

Hopefully the advice shared here makes sense and leads to the results you’re looking for. We live in a world where lots of things are on-demand for instant gratification.

Aquascaping is an escape from that. The process is relaxing, with long-term rewards. It’s my zen.

Sometimes, you do have to wait for your ecosystem to develop and for your aquascape or nanoscape to become a beautiful underwater paradise.

Background.

This site basically brings together all my YouTube videos and shorts. Video production is a new area for me, but I’m learning new things all the time and hopefully my photography and editing will improve.

I’m a writer too, so I’ll probably post articles too. We’ll see how it goes.
